about

Before my son was born I kept thinking that becoming a parent might be like getting on a spaceship and traveling to another world. It felt like I was leaving my old world behind. This thought stuck with me through the four days we spent in the hospital, the first weeks of endless anxiety and doctors appointments, and the first months of extreme sleep deprivation.

In rare moments not spent parenting, sleeping or panicking, I started recording old synthesizers in my basement as quietly as possible. The sounds of ‘80s genre movies and low budget educational videos felt comforting, carefree, and matched my childish daydream about being on a spaceship to a new and strange place. Most importantly, it wasn’t loud enough to wake anyone up.

Listening to this months later, I hear the confusion and anxiety. I also hear the beginning of something new. The final tracks arrive somewhere that I think is worth sharing.

Anyway, things are different now. I am in a new place. And parenting is more terrifying than I imagined, but also more wonderful than I imagined. Thanks for listening.
